The Loop
These are works from my solo exhibition The Loop at Ink Blot Gallery in Alameda, California in 2017. For this exhibit I created a series of work based on photos that I toke at Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland and along Shoreline Drive in Alameda. This project was a way for me to clear my head and gain some perspective during a tumultuous time in my life. The process of taking the photos and creating the paintings physically slowed me down and drew me into the present moment. Some of the works were created on reclaimed surfaces of objects from my life, the largest of which was my former dining room table top. The differing styles within the pieces speak to my seemingly disconnected thoughts on memory and loss and how it is distorted and softened in the remembering.
