I am a multimedia artist living and working in Berkeley, California. I earned my BA in studio art in 2011 from Willamette University. Since then my practice has included many facets, such as oil painting, illustration, murals, and sculpture. My paintings have recently been in several Bay Area shows including, The Women’s 10x10 show at Faultline Artspace 2025, The 510 All Stars show art Nielsen Arts Gallery and Custom Framing 2024, The De Young Open 2023, and an installation Celebrating the 75th anniversary Children's Fairyland at the Oakland Museum of California opening in April 2025.
My current series Living City explores the flora and fauna of our urban landscape and how nature finds a way to thrive in unexpected places. With these paintings I am able to make an ephemeral moment permanent and encourage the viewer to stop and linger in time as well. Memory can be fuzzy but also can be detailed recollection, the way a dream might be sharp and life-like but not quite real. In the series I use acrylic for the line work and oil glazing for the color, and my photography for reference images. The way I am painting this series reflects my background as an illustrator with expressive line work and rich colors, evoking the nostalgia of colorized photography. The line work recalls graphic novels, making my narration explicit.
